Film star and director Pankaj Mishra has gone on trial for rape
Pankai Mishra, one of the stars of films such as “Gokar Bala”, “Kanchanjagri,” and “Shaam ka Kuchiya,” has been arrested for rape.
His arrest came as part of a sweeping anti-corruption drive by the State government.
A total of 4,058 FIRs were registered in connection with Mishra’s alleged sexual assault of five women, including a minor girl.
He was booked on Thursday for raping the minor girl in a pub in Bengaluru in February 2016.
Mishra’s lawyer told the police that his client had no knowledge of the crime.
“Mishras son, Pankayaji Mishra is not aware of the rape case…he has no knowledge about the police probe and the probe is on,” said Ashok Kumar.
He also said that the accused has a history of criminal acts.
“I have been told that Pankaji Mishras son is involved in the rape cases.
He is a serial rapist.
I have lodged a criminal case against him,” Kumar told reporters.
On Monday, Mishra was arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Bengalur.
Police said that a complaint was lodged by a minor, who claimed that Mishra assaulted her in his apartment in Bengalura.
He has been booked under sections 376 (rape), 376A (criminal intimidation), 354 (rape) and 354A (rape by deception) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police said that Mishras arrest was taken by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has been probing the rape.
“The NIA is working on the case.
I will send a team to Bengaluru tomorrow to look into the matter,” NIA Director General K.P. Bala told reporters on Tuesday.
The arrest of Mishra comes in the wake of a spate of recent sexual assaults against women in Bengaluri.
In a case filed in Bengal, two women were allegedly gangraped by Mishra while on a private train in the city on February 23, and a case in the same city on April 2.
