The first ever football match to be played in a cage
In a world where it is now a taboo to show people a picture of someone holding a child, one Australian team is taking things to a whole new level.
The first ever rugby league game has been played in cage, according to Canberra club cedar Creek.
It was played at the club’s arena in Canberra’s CBD on Saturday and, like all the others before it, it featured a cage-style structure, similar to the way a football pitch is constructed.
“It’s like a soccer field, but with cage-type structure and we’ll get to see the action inside it,” the club president, Peter Jardine, told ABC Radio Canberra.
“We’ll see how many players can play against each other and we can see how much damage can be done.”
A cage-like structureThe first cage game at Canberra’s cedar area club was played in April.
“They didn’t even know it was happening, they were surprised when they saw it,” Mr Jard, a former NRL player, said.
The game was played by four members of the cedar club, who all started playing rugby league in the 1990s.
The cage-based rugby league has now become a fixture in Canberra, with the Canberra Rugby League League Club team taking part in the game at its venue.
The players wore black shirts with the club crest on the front and the word ‘cedar’ on the back.
“There were two guys in the cage,” Mr Poulter said.
“The other one, the other one was the goalkeeper.”
And we were just in shock, we were shocked, we didn’t know what to expect.
“The cage has the ability to trap up to 100kg of weight, which makes it an ideal fit for the game, Mr Jartine said.
There are many other rugby league clubs in Canberra who also play the game inside the cage.”
This is our first time playing a cage game, so it’s very exciting,” Mr Kildare said.
