How to watch the world’s biggest blockbuster movie theatres in 2019
The first-ever list of the world ‘biggest’ cinema chains has been unveiled, as well as the top 10 best cinema locations around the globe.
The list, published on the internet on Friday, ranks the cinema chains by their annual revenue from ticket sales, rental income, corporate sponsorship and other sources.
In 2019, the number one cinema chain was Greendale, which brought in more than $10.4 billion, while its neighbour, Liberty Media, took in $6.5 billion.
The list includes six chains: AMC, AMC+, Cinemark, Cinemax, Cinemark+ and Regal.
The big winners of the list are in-house theatres, where a new line-up of films can be seen.
“The new year will bring more big and exciting films to our audiences and we will be pleased to report that we will have the best films from the biggest, and most successful, chains across the globe,” said John Smedley, President and CEO of the Independent Film Market.
“Our customers expect that we are offering a diverse array of films, which are delivered with the utmost care, professionalism and excellence.”
With the introduction of the new 2019 year, we can now look forward to bringing new titles to our cinemas and creating a better and more convenient experience for our audiences.
“For the first time, the list also shows the worlds top five and six cinema chains in terms of revenue and revenue growth.
Cinema chains that were part of the 2017 list are now part of 2018, with AMC being the only chain to remain in the top spot for both the first and second years.
And it is the largest group of theatres on the list, with the average ticket price increasing by more than 5% to $1,082 per ticket, according to the latest estimates from the Hollywood Reporter.
It is also the most popular chain, with its average ticket prices rising by 4.4% to more than 4,400 per ticket.
This means the number of people who would buy a ticket to a movie in 2019 is expected to be higher than in any previous year.”
The 2019 edition of the Cinema and Entertainment Index, which includes every major cinema chain in the world, is an important benchmark for the industry,” said Smedie Sudduth, senior vice president of global media at Cinemark.”
For the second year in a row, the average attendance for a major film was up nearly 9% from the previous year, making 2019 the biggest year for attendance in cinema history.
“Cinemas around the world also enjoyed record-breaking revenues, including $2.7 billion in China and $1.8 billion in India.
While the top ten biggest cinema chains worldwide are based in the United States, the top five are based all over the world.
The worlds two biggest cinema brands, Disney and Sony, combined for more than 2.3 billion tickets in 2019, while Universal Studios was the number two cinema chain with 1.9 billion.
The top five chains in the US had revenues of $9.4 million, with Disney bringing in $7.4m and Sony bringing in almost $7 million.
Other major players in the industry, including AMC, Cinemarks and Regent, also saw significant revenue growth in the year.
There are also some surprises in the list of top cinema locations, which include locations in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
